چکیده
Balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) has been a highly successful therapy for children and young adults with aortic valve stenosis, resulting in both symptomatic improvement and durable increases in the aortic valve area. Despite enthusiasm for BAV in older adult patients with aortic valve stenosis in the mid-1980s, the therapy has had disappointing mediumand long-term outcomes. Survival of patients with aortic valve stenosis does not increase with BAV, and restenosis occurs in the vast majority of patients within 6–24 months after therapy. Despite these limitations, most patients are symptomatically improved for a year or more. BAV remains an effective palliative therapy for selected patients. (J Interven Cardiol 2006;19:276–279)

A variety of advances have recently facilitated development of methods to treat mitral regurgitation using catheter techniques via the percutaneous route. These include placing devices into the coronary sinus to support the mitral annulus and direct percutaneous leaflet repair. These approaches are already attractive for use in older patients and will hopefully make treatments available to many...

Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases during childhood. Today, ASD closure is done by occlutech device via cardiac catheterization. ASD repair with transcatheter technique has shown high closure rate. However, coexistence of severe pulmonary stenosis and large defect in atrial septum is rare. When these two problems coexist, the result is i...

BaIlon mitral valvuloplasty and closed mitral valve conunissurotomy were performed in 450 and 127 patients, respectively. Also, 254 patients with severe mitral stenosis were enrolled in a prospective randomized trial comparing the two procedures. Immediately after balloon mitral valvuloplasty, mean left atrial pressure was 11.38±3.54 mmHg, transmitral valve gradient was 1.8±2 mmHg, and mit...

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty is a relatively new technique for relief of obstruction of aortic valve. The primary results of this procedure are similar to surgical valvotomy with fewer complications and mortality. Materials and methods: One hundred fifty-five patients with congenital aortic stenosis were enrolled in this study over a period of 6 years (1991-1997). Participants were all un...
